Lisa Nelson
Hello I’m Lisa. I am a storyteller, who loves to listen to people’s stories, and I have a natural curiosity for what motivates people and gives meaning to their lives. I am a connector who has a passion for discovering where our stories intersect with God’s, and I’m a broken person still learning that I am not defined by my scars, but I am defined by God’s love and Christ’s redeeming work to bring wholeness in my life.
My story of faith began as an insecure kid who met God in a Presbyterian Church. I learned how to listen, receive grace, to love and be loved. As I began to follow Jesus, I didn’t know that God was preparing me to be a servant leader. In my ministry I mentored youth and young adults, befriended International students, and learned to seek beauty in ashes as I ministered to people experiencing trauma and facing the end of life. I have witnessed God’s redemptive work as I served people on the margins of society through inner city outreaches and international missions, and I have experienced the joys and hardships of imagining, bringing forth, pastoring, and closing the doors of a New Worshipping Community.
I am ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the PC(USA) denomination. I received my BA in Psychology, and my Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. I am a board certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains, and Master Holy Yoga Instructor.
Of my ordination vows the one that continues to inspire and propel me forward in ministry is the question, Will you pray for and seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?
I believe in order to truly serve and love people we have to see people. God created us to be seen, and to see others. Seeing is a reflection of God’s character in us, and one way we can reflect God’s love and compassion to others.
Pictured with me above is my husband Chris, and our kids Malia, and Micah. We love to paddle board, camp, and play games. Covenant has been our family since 2010, and we are grateful to be a part of this community.
